Originally opened in 1984 by the commissioner, Sir Kenneth Newman, The Hobbit Suite began its life as a sports pavilion, complete with a sports hall and bar. That heritage gives it a unique atmosphere that feels special and entirely yours for the occasion. This first-floor, open-plan space is a world of its own, steeped in character and perfect for more intimate gatherings.
It’s a bright, welcoming space designed for heartfelt celebrations, lively parties, and focused corporate events. With its own private bar and self-contained feel, it’s the perfect backdrop for making memories.

Hobbit room hire: For life’s intimate occasions
From wedding breakfasts to celebrations of life and milestone birthdays, the Hobbit keeps everyone close and comfortable. The bar sits within the room for smooth service, while the AV setup supports slideshows, speeches and background playlists. Event planning that requires a smaller day appreciate that dinner, speeches and dancing can unfold without swapping venues or losing atmosphere.
Why choose the Hobbit as your wedding venue
Hold an indoor ceremony and reception that feels personal and beautifully paced. Licensed ceremonies take place inside the room, followed by a seated meal for up to 60 and an evening up to 120. Menu tastings are available with selected packages, our on-site team coordinates timings, and members can enjoy bar savings when pre-paying behind the bar
Guests often step outside for portraits across our 22 acres – woodland edges, lawns and historic brick make breathtaking backdrops.

Hobbit house: Hire with catering and facilities
The private bar shortens queues, air-conditioning keeps the atmosphere fresh, and the projector helps you share photos or tributes with ease. There is no minimum bar spend – bookings are room-hire based. Bar service runs to midnight, with the option to request a licensed extension to 1:00am subject to approval.
Our in-house, 5-star rated kitchen prepares generous buffets and plated menus with thoughtful dietary provision. If you need a specialist cuisine, room-only hire is available by arrangement with insured third-party caterers. A corkage arrangement for own alcohol may be possible for private events, on request.
Corporate, commercial, and event space
The Hobbit Suite doubles as a focused weekday room for briefings, training and away-days. Use the projector and speakers, request a microphone if needed, and choose a layout that suits discussion or delivery. Breaks can be hosted at the private bar or in our cafe and bar downstairs. This room also works as a breakout for product previews and small-scale showcases within a wider estate takeover.

Accessibility and arrival
There is no lift access to the Hobbit Suite – guests reach the room via steps. Our team will help you plan the most suitable approach route for guests with mobility needs. Once upstairs, toilets are on the same level. A Changing Places facility with hoist is available at ground level.
Parking for over 80 free spaces available on site. Cars may stay overnight but at owners’ risk. Disabled bays can be found near the entrance.
